i have naturally dark brown hair which is very thick and shoulder length.

ive got a couple of grey hairs which i hate so now i have to colour my hair forever. Ive ben doing it dark brown but sometimes it comes out black which im not too keen on. i cant afford to have it coloured at the hairdressers so i will have to do it myself.

Go to a beauty supply store and get your own stuff....it is alot cheaper than the junk at a store or a hair dresser. Get the stuff that is for resistant grey hairs or up to 100% grey coverage. The permanent kind level #3. When women get older you should go a shade or two lighter than you natural color. You skin is getting thinner and paler and the darker colors will make you washed out looking. Going no more than 2 shades lighter makes it look more natural looking.

When getting the peroxide(to mix with the permanent color) there are levels 20 to 50 and 50 is only for professional hairdresser. The higher the number the lighter you hair will be. I get 40 for my blonde steaks and 30 for my color so it blends well. I have used 20 but it makes my hair really, realy dark.

When you go to the beauty supply store ask them for advise....they are not allowed to give color selection advise (on suggesting a spefic color) but can help you on the items you might need to do it your self.
