Natural hair dye?
The best, I think, are based on Henna

Go to your local beauty supply store and buy some henna.

Most places that sell organic foods also carry cosmetics and hair dye. If you have a Whole Foods Market near you, you will find natural hair coloring there.

Henna is a natural hair dye. You can buy it in drugstores and health food stores. Follow the color guide and directions. Grey hair is resistant to colour unless it's quite dry. But I know what you're saying, with the regular hair colour it gets damaged and dry with itchy scalp, etc. keep it conditioned well.
Natural hair dye?
Henna based products are one of the most natural and safe dyes out there. Infact they are all natural. Henna hair color can last for up to one year in some cases Just be sure you consult someone on the color. I tried to highlight mine with henna and accidently got the wrong color. It is commonly used in India to keep hair from turning grey they also use it to stencil designs on there skin so be sure you get the henna for your hair. Be sure the packaging has instructions in english some imported ones do not. I had to leave mine on over night but I am sure there are better henna products available now. you may want to check out this site it is called henna hair dye things to consider 1st http://www.chambersessentials.com/henna-...

If you are going to use3 henna on your hair please make sure that you do a strand test on your hair before doing the whole lot.
Natural dyes are great however they dont always mix well with other types of colour, so unless you have grown out your old stuff COMPLETELY then you could be asking for a serious reaction to happen!
A good salon product in regard to natural colours would be Sebastian Cellophanes. They contain no ammonia or peroxide and leave the hair in better condition than it was before and it will cover a certain amount of white ( no such thing as grey hair) hair.
On a final note, if a permenant colour is done properly it will not have any detrimental effect on the hair and its structure and condition .... the only thing that causes that is bad stylists who dont know what they are doing and home jobs of course.. so if you have no luck with the veggie dyes there is no need for you to stop using a permenant dye on it, but get it done by a colour tech who really knows what they are talking about.
Hope that helps
