My poodle's fur is fading and becoming grey, is there a way to prevent this happening?

When I first got my toy poodle he was a really vibrant dark brown but now he is a year old his ears and legs are fine but his belly, chest and head all have patches of faded or grey hair.

Is this to do with his diet or is it justa natural poodle things. He is current fed a dry food from Hills.

Any advice, apart from dyeing him, would be gratefully received.

well, I was going to say he's aging but at only a year old.......i don't know. There really is nothing you can do except dye his hair, however, have you spoke with the breeder? This may be changing to his "natural" hair color. Maybe one of his parents had a lighter color brown and that's what's happening.

speak to your vet...dramatic changes in hair or fur can be an indicator of a hormone imbalance or other health issues. I would also contact the breeder to see if this is something that has occured in the parents and other littermates. It is also possible that as he has grown, what you are seeing is what his actual coat will be...most dogs will change as they move from puppy coat to full adult coat.

Most brown poodles unfortunately do not stay their nice dark brown. They usually get grey hair mixed it, sometimes a lot and sometimes not much. I had a brown standard and saw his father and he was almost totally grey.
